Well, this is a big one. No less than five new chapbooks have been added to the Eibonvale website and should now be available to order – failing teething troubles because I am pretty whacked right now, in all honesty! These will be dispatched as soon as I have seen the physical copies of them, but they are available to order now.

We have:

Chap06_FamilyMatters

Family Matters by Gaurav Monga – a set of miniatures laced with quiet absurdism and melancholy.

Chap07_Instar

Third Instar by David Gullen – a vivid, evocative and ultimately dreamlike fantasy novella. One of the first times Eibonvale has ventured into this area of literature.

Print

The Uneasy by Andrew Hook – a poignant and erotic story of a British expatriate and her increasingly surreal quest for sexual fulfilment.

Print

The Man Who Murdered His Muse by James Champagne – a dark and sharp horror story about the art of writing, twisted intellectualism, mainstream success and the sometimes highly warped relationships people can have with their creative muse

Print

Some Pink Star by Sophie Essex – Eibonvale’s first ever collection entirely of poetry, a very sharp and experimental book that explores the correlation between sex and violence, the willingness of either and both.

I have also vastly expanded the Eibonvale chapbook bundle deals, so you can now buy any three, four or five titles with a nice discount. So lets have a chapbook fest! I could use a fest. Yes – definitely time to celebrate the tiny books!

Just a reminder! There are only a few days left to EVER get your hands on a copy of Alexander Zelenyj‘s A Test Tube Family, which we are offering as a free extra with the hardcover edition of his collection Blacker Against the Deep Dark. I shall be closing the offer at the end of the 13th January.

Also, I have both titles in my hands now – first copies. Blacker Against the Deep Dark has turned out nicely dramatic, in spite of my sailing close to the wind with some very dark colours. And Test Tube Family has turned out a very nice and faintly modernist little volume. There will only ever be as many copies of this as there are people who order by the end of this weekend.

cover_deepdark_th.jpgAlexander Zelenyj’s large collection Blacker Against the Deep Dark is now available to order. This is a chance for the press to dive again into the deeper places of genre fiction, as well as what happens when they blend and combine. Emotionally sophisticated, harrowing and searingly powerful stories.

From a man having a conversation with the shadow of a human being blasted into a wall by the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, to a pastor giving shelter to the most bizarre individual to ever walk the Earth; from a secret group at war with the physical manifestations of disease that have run rampant for ages, to a pair of detectives trying to solve the mystery of a deadly otherworldly drug that legend says holds the power to open the gates to Paradise. These, and other dark and weird tales…

These stories play out like an R-rated Twilight Zone; grittily thrusting life’s toughest questions at readers with unabashed confrontation, and in the strangest of places.

Screenshot 2018-12-18 21.26.01To celebrate the launch, we have a special offer.  Order the hardcover edition before January 13th and get a copy of Zelenyj’s exclusive chapbook mini-collection A Test Tube Family. We will only be printing enough copies of this to cover these initial orders, so this will remain a very rare book. All hardcover orders placed before that date will receive a copy.

Things are progressing nicely with the next Eibonvale book – Alexander Zelenyj’s large collection Blacker Against the Deep Dark. This is a chance for the press to dive again into the deeper places of genre fiction, as well as what happens when they blend and combine. Emotionally sophisticated, harrowing and searingly powerful stories.

For various complicated reasons, I can’t show you the cover yet, though it has been sent to the printers. However, what I can show you is the cover of the exclusive mini-collection that will be available free with pre-orders / first orders. This tiny chapbook has also been sent to the printers just now.

Watch this space for the cover reveal, and for more info on how and when to get this freebie. Blacker Against the Deep Dark will be launching with the new year.

The special offer for How Many Times? by Rhys Hughes is now live! And remember – hardcover only! Click here to order.

To recap: The author has provided a bundle of extremely rare signed and numbered chapbooks – highly limited runs of works from 2013 that have previously only been available as ebooks. Only ten copies were ever made of each title and they have never been offered for sale. I have 18 copies in total and the first 18 orders for the hardcover of How Many Times? will receive a randomly selected chapbook as a free gift. This will be strictly first come first served (going by the time the order is placed with Paypal) and for this reason, I will be opening the orders for this title at 6PM UK time, Saturday 31st March. Please be ready to place orders then as I have no idea how quickly these will go! This only applies to orders placed directly with Eibonvale Press and only to the hardback edition. Any questions or anything I have forgotten, please drop me an email!

A very curious little book will be available to order as of next Saturday – How Many Times? by Rhys Hughes. Hughes has never been a stranger to experimental fiction and unusual ways of constructing stories, and this mini-collection gathers some of his most far-reaching examples, placed squarely in the world of OuLiPo writing. Short for Ouvroir de littérature potentielle or the workshop of potential literature, OuLiPo is a grouping of authors who fashion works based on constrained writing techniques – writing that follows rigorous and extremely precise rules concerning structure and layout etc. And here, we encounter works based on rigid numerical constraints, works in the form of grids that can be read in any direction, and a “logico-erotic tale in which the permutations of the sexual acts are based on the workings of logic gates.”

The intricacy of construction within these carefully defined restraints is stunning but the resulting literary world is still very much the author’s own, filled with his characteristic sense of humour, the absurd and the fantastical.

This is a slim but large-format book to provide space for all the complex layouts, grids, structures etc. that make up these stories.  The contents list is as follows:

In addition, we have a special special offer for the first 18 purchases of the hardback.  The author has provided a bundle of extremely rare signed and numbered chapbooks – highly limited runs of works from 2013 that have previously only been available as ebooks.

I will announce this again on Saturday – but remember the date!  🙂

Here is a look at the cover of Brendan Connell’s chapbook Curious Births to Light the Universe. This style of art is very different to the usual Eibonvale covers, but one that I really enjoy doing and one that I hope rather lends itself to chapbooks.  I hope there will be more of these.

Just to reiterate, there will be only 50 copies of this 44 page book of microfictions and they will only be available as a free gift alongside Hardcover preorders of his collection Pleasant Tales, or as a special bundle with the paperback. Visit the Eibonvale Press website for more info and to get copies while they last.  Way over half of them have already sold, so if you want a copy of this, don’t delay too much longer!

Yesterday (ok, Saturday to you – don’t ask about my sleeping patterns!) the extras for Alexander Zelenyj’s Songs for the Lost bundle deals finally arrived!  That is, the chapbook containing a few new stories, the signed bookplates and the special ‘tickets’, which the world will have to decipher for itself if it can.  Some copies have already been sent out and the rest will be going out over the next few days I hope.  The special bundle deals are now closed for this title, but keep an eye on our blog as we often offer these special deals to launch a book.

Please note that those of you who also ordered the new edition of Experiments at Three Billion A.M. will receive your copy later when the book is published.

Ok folks! We are now good to go on the special lettered edition bundles of our latest title: Alexander Zelenyj’s massive new collection Songs For The Lost and its companion book Ballads To The Burning Twins with matching lettered bookplates, one of a range of very rare Deathray Bradburies ticket stubs that will serve very well as bookmarks, and best of all, Forgotten Hymns Of The Death Angels – a signed lettered ‘zine-style’ chapbook produced by the author containing four additional stories that will not be available for sale outside this offer.

Zelenyj is an author distinguished by the extraordinary levels of bleak honesty and human pain in his writing – an almost unique perspective on the human condition in my experience, coupled with roots deep into classic genre forms which are then transmuted into something entirely new – a classic facet of slipstream writing.  His works remain among the strongest, strangest and most emotional I have ever been privileged to publish.

The bundles will open for orders on:

WEDNESDAY  27/08/14 – 21:00 London Time.

at this link: http://www.eibonvalepress.co.uk/specials.html

At that time the order buttons will go live (refreash the page!).  In the meantime though you can find more info there so take a look.

They often sell fast so keep an eye out, especially if you want a chance at the coveted letter A!

The slightly late hour is to give buyers in Canada and the USA a chance. Alexander Zelenyj is a Canadian author after all!

And just to reiterate – the price of Songs is a little higher than usual due to printing costs because it is a HUGE book! 34 stories no less. Over twice the size of many of our publications. It is a book that will last you a long time and take you to many places. This is our first book in far too long – and I am starting to feel as though we are coming back with a bang!
